Synthetic-content marking evidence checklist
Article 50(2) addresses machine-readable marking and detectability for certain AI-generated or manipulated audio, image, video and text outputs. The Commission notes a limited transition to 2 December 2026 for certain systems placed on the market before 2 August 2026.
- Inventory output types generated or materially manipulated by each AI system.
- Identify the machine-readable mark or provenance signal generated upstream.
- Test the user-delivered output, not just the raw model output.
- Check whether resizing, transcoding, compression, screenshots or export remove the signal.
- Record technical limitations and failure modes.
- Document any standard-editing or non-substantial-change exception relied on.
- Preserve test evidence, date, system version and accountable owner.
- Retest after model, media pipeline or vendor changes.
